Major computer manufacturers usually ship their computers with one or more Hard Disk Recovery CDs (also known as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 Recovery CDs, hard drive Restore CDs or hard drive data Restore CDs). Other manufacturers supply the recovery data on a special part of the hard drive which is commonly known as the Recovery partition.

The hard drive data Recovery CDs are specifically designed for your PC, usually contain an image of what was on the computers hard drive when it was first bought, & they allow you to return the machine to its original state (as new).

The hard drive data Recovery CDs are also sometimes referred to as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 installation CDs because they completely erase the contents of your hard drive & then re-install your operating system (Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7). However, they differ from normal Windows XP or Windows Vista installation disks in that they usually restore all programs which were originally installed on the hard drive when the PC was first purchased (any additional programs or files which were not originally installed will be overwritten).

This is particularly useful if the machine has been attacked by a virus, if the original hard drive has developed a fault, or if you simply wish to replace or upgrade the hard drive, & need to re-install your original software.

Virus Attacks

If your PC has been attacked by a virus which is still causing problems, or worse still; is infected with a virus which you cannot remove, the best course of action is often to completely erase the hard drive & re-install Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 from your hard drive data Recovery CDs. This process will usually involve placing the hard drive data Recovery CDs / hard drive data Restore CDs in the CD ROM or DVD ROM drive & re-booting the system. The computer should then boot from the hard drive recovery CD & will often give you the option of formatting the hard drive (which would then completely delete the virus & the hard drive contents). The hard drive data Recovery CDs will then return the hard drive to its original state (as new). Faulty Hard Disk Drive

If your PC has a faulty hard disk drive, the best course of action is often to completely replace the hard drive & restore Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 & the original software from your hard drive data recovery CD. This process will usually involve placing the data Recovery CDs - Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 installation CDs in the CD ROM or DVD ROM drive & re-booting the system. The computer should then boot from the hard drive recovery CD & this will then return the computer to its original state (as new). Computer Running Slowly
